WTF is “Original” Content?
In case you’ve been living under an Instagram rock, here’s the tea:
According to Adam Mosseri, CEO of Instagram, the app will now be prioritizing “Original Content”
What the heck does that mean?
Well, “original content” is simply content that you created yourself. Check out this super to-the-point explanation from Mosseri himself:
Basically, Instagram wants you to create your own content, instead of reposting or plagiarizing from other accounts.
So what about trends?
Don’t freak out! Using trending audios in your Reels is still considered “Original content” (as long as the actual VIDEO is yours, and not reposted from someone else) *phew*
Does “no reposting” mean I can’t share other people’s posts to my story anymore?
The term “reposting” refers to the concept of saving someone else’s content and reposting it onto your FEED, not your story. Even if you give the original creator credit, these types of posts will now be seeing less of a reach than original content that is made by the creator themselves.
You can definitely continue sharing posts to your story! This helps out the Creator a ton and is always very appreciated 🙂
What about reposting my own content from the past?
While there hasn’t been a very clear answer on this, it seems as though reposting from your own account should be alright! The main point is that Instagram wants to see YOU creating the content, not taking it from others.
So what do I need to do?
Well, odds are, you’re already creating original content, which means you’ve got nothing to worry about! However, you may want to notice a few patterns that have been going on across the IG platform when it comes to originality…
For many users, content that includes their own voice has been performing WAY better than just using trending audios. And not to mention, it’s even more “Original.”
Overall, it seems like more and more people are getting bored of the lip-syncing and just want to see something different!
I can’t tell you what to do, but using your own voice in your Reels this week may be worth a try!
